These three machines get cross-shopped constantly and shouldn’t be: one fizzes water cheaply, one fizzes anything, and one is a water purifier that happens to sparkle. Buy the SodaStream if…
…you want the cheapest reliable exit from bottled water and only ever fizz water. It’s the machine with the deepest local support: official Singapore presence, cylinder swaps at major retailers, spares everywhere. The Quick Connect cylinder locks you into SodaStream’s exchange network — an acceptable tax on the easiest ownership experience in the category.
Buy the Drinkmate if…
…the phrase “fizzy calamansi juice” means something to your household. Its detachable fizz infuser is genuinely the only mainstream way to carbonate drinks other than water without wrecking a machine, and the standard screw-in cylinder keeps you out of any single brand’s exchange network. It costs a bit more and the two-stage pressure-release ritual is slower — that’s the trade.
Buy the HydroSpark+ if…
…you were shopping for a reverse-osmosis water purifier anyway. That’s the entire case, and it’s a strong one in its lane: one counter appliance replaces the purifier, the kettle and the carbonator — filtered water at three temperatures plus sparkling, from a 5 L tank (no plumbing) or a mains connection. Judged purely as a fizz machine, S$2,988 is absurd; judged against buying a purifier andliving with a carbonator on the same counter, it’s tidy. Details and purchase on the HydroSpark+ page.
When not to buy the HydroSpark+
- You only want fizz. A carbonator does that job for 5% of the price. Our own cost table shows the built-in class never wins on sparkling economics alone.
- Your counter can’t give up the space.It’s a 22 kg appliance that needs clearance for refilling and CO2 access.
- You already own a purifier you like. Adding a S$139 carbonator next to it is the rational move, not replacing it.
The bottom line
